If you offer online booking to your clients in several different languages, that’s a real advantage! In SalonLife, you can add up to 17 languages to your booking page, making booking simpler, clearer, and even more convenient for your clients. Below, we’ll walk through step by step how to add a new language to your online booking system and which settings to keep in mind along the way.

1. Add a New Translation

  1. Go to the Apps page and look for the app called Translations.
  2. Click the green (+) icon button.
  3. A dropdown opens where you can choose the language you want (e.g. Finnish, Russian, English, Chinese, etc.).
  4. After choosing the language, click Save, which creates a new language option under settings that you can then start editing.
    ‍
Good to know!
‍
If some of the words in the new language are already there, that’s a big help. Still, translating the exact names of services and categories is up to you, so everything matches your salon’s style.

2. Managing Translations

Once you’ve added a language, the system also shows a percentage, giving you an idea of how much of that language is already translated.

  • General terms (for example “Next,” “Back,” “Choose Date”) are translated automatically.
  • Salon-specific terms and service names have to be entered by each user, since these can differ from one specialist or salon to the next.

Translating Services and Categories

  1. Click the Translations button next to the updated language, which takes you to the more detailed translations.
  2. Open it and find your services and categories in the list.
  3. Fill in the blank fields on the right with the correct equivalents.
  4. Once everything’s added, be sure to click Save at the bottom of the page so your changes take effect.
    ‍
 TIP:
If you have a lot of different services, you can do the translation step by step. Just keep in mind that all your key services should be translated before you activate the language. That way, clients won’t run into confusing, untranslated services.

3. Activating the Language

  1. Go back to the main Translations view.
  2. Find the Settings button on the row for the language you added.
  3. Choose the language’s Status, select Active.
  4. Click Save and close the settings.
    ‍

Once the status is “Active,” the language is no longer locked, and clients can select the translation in the online booking view.

4. Testing the Language in Online Booking

After activating it, refresh your online booking page. You should now see a language icon (e.g. a flag) in the top right corner, which clients can click to choose a different language.

  • If there’s no flag in the top right corner, check that the language is definitely active and that it’s saved correctly.

5. Reordering Your Translations

If you want to change the order the languages appear in online booking, you can do that on the Translations page:

  1. Hold your cursor over the arrow icon next to the language.
  2. Drag it into the order you want.
  3. The change saves automatically, or you’ll be asked to confirm, depending on what’s shown on screen.

Adding a new language to online booking gives your salon greater accessibility and makes booking more convenient for clients. Once a language is activated, clients can choose the one that suits them right from the booking homepage, and the whole process runs in a language they understand.

Be sure to also review all your service names and descriptions and translate them into the relevant language, so the whole booking process stays professional, clear, and easy to follow.
